John Brown and LeRoy Barley will be this year’s special guest artist/clinicians.  They will judge the visiting high school and middle school bands (2/17 and 2/18), give classes, and perform with additional international guest artists Ed Nuemeister and Howard Curtis and the Elon University Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Jon Metzger on the festival ending concert on 2/18/12.

Inspired by the masterful works of William Shakespeare, acclaimed jazz greats Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington and Billy Strayhorn created this suite of pieces bringing the worlds of literature and music together in this triumphant work.

A night of brass, class, rhythm & swing in a cavalcade of Big Band hits kicked up a notch under the guidance and indisputable finesse of jazz master John Brown. With the group’s new recording “Setting Standards” and the Rodrigo Dorfman documentary film “One Night in Kernersville” about the making of the album, a film which walked away with the Jury Award for Best Short Film at the Full Frame Documentary Festival, the John Brown Jazz Orchestra is riding a musical wave that’s full-tilt swing. There are “big bands” – and then there’s John Brown’s big band. No confusion there!
